New in Málstaður: Sidebar and plain language

We would like to thank you for the warm welcome Málstaður has received, with over 20,000 people now registered as users. Since Málstaður was launched, a great deal has changed and been added, all with the aim of providing the best possible service to our users. We have now added even more functionality to Málstaður and made it clearer how you can make the most of it.

New feature: Sidebar in Málfríður and plain language

It's now even easier to work with your text in Málfríður's new sidebar. All the main functions for your text are accessible in the sidebar, including summaries for meeting minutes.

In the sidebar, you can also find a new feature that converts your text into plain language. This feature can help you write text that is better suited to your target audience so that more people can understand it, and it can also help you better understand complex texts. We hope that plain language will be useful for improving access to content in Icelandic for various groups, but in a more general way than easy language.

We recently announced that Snara's dictionaries are now accessible on the Málstaður website with a new interface, along with Netskrafl and Gáta dagsins (Riddle of the Day). You can now select text in Málfríður, a single word or more, and look it up in Snara's dictionaries by selecting the word. The lookups are located in the new sidebar, but you can also perform general searches in Snara's dictionaries through its own interface on Málstaður. This is the first direct integration of Snara's dictionaries into other Málstaður solutions, and a good example of how the dictionaries can be utilized in different places. We are exploring other interesting possibilities and look forward to showing them to you.

New subscription plans and arrangement

We have simplified how you use the products in Málstaður to better reflect actual usage.

We have changed the names of our subscription plans to make them more transparent. An individual subscription to Málstaður is now called Föst áskrift (a fixed subscription). It includes a fixed usage credit for Málstaður's solutions beyond basic access, i.e., other than proofreading with Málfríður, lookups in Snara, Netskrafl, and Gáta dagsins.

Our group subscription is now called Föst áskrift (a flexible subscription). Here, payment is divided into a fixed subscription fee based on the number of users, and then a usage fee for the group for Málstaður's solutions beyond basic access.

We have also added new subscription plans: a separate subscription to Snara and a separate subscription to Netskrafl. More information about the subscription plans and what they include can be found on the Málstaður subscription page.

All users with a fixed subscription now receive a credit in krónur that can be used across all products, instead of having to track usage in each individual solution within Málstaður. This gives users a better opportunity to fully utilize their credit. Subscribers still have unlimited access to proofreading in Málfríður and Snara.

Groups with a flexible subscription also receive a credit that the group shares. After that, it is possible to pay per use. The usage cost is simplified and is based on a fee for text processing (summarization, plain language, or translations) and a fee for speech processing (speech recognition).

  • Free access: 500 krónur in credit.

  • Fixed Subscription: 10,000 krónur in credit.

  • Flexible Subscription: 1,000 krónur in credit for the entire group for each user.

You can now purchase an annual subscription to Málstaður and receive a 20% discount on the total price. The annual subscription is not available for the flexible subscription, but a volume discount is offered instead. You can commit to a certain number of seats and in return receive a discount on the basic fee per seat.

Check out the subscription page to learn more.

In conclusion

We are very excited to see how the new feature will be used and have many other interesting things in the pipeline. We encourage users to keep an eye out for announcements about exciting new features that will make working with Icelandic text even easier and more efficient.
