Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Icelandic – A Discussion in Kastljós

In recent years, artificial intelligence has advanced rapidly and is beginning to have a wide-ranging impact on society. It can talk to us, write for us, translate for us, and even help us think in new ways. But where does the Icelandic language stand in these times of transformation? What are the opportunities we can seize, and what are the challenges we need to face?

On Wednesday evening, October 15, Vilhjálmur Þorsteinsson, founder and chairman of Miðeind, and Lilja Dögg Jónsdóttir, managing director of Almannarómur, discussed the state of the Icelandic language in the context of artificial intelligence and technological progress with Bergsteinn Sigurðsson on the TV show Kastljós on the TV station RÚV. They considered how artificial intelligence and language technology could be used to protect and strengthen the position of the Icelandic language, and to promote sovereignty and independence.

This is an important conversation for everyone who cares about our language and its future.
