This Friday, the Icelandic AI Competition will be launched for the first time! This is an exciting new initiative where people interested in artificial intelligence get the opportunity to tackle challenging tasks spanning various fields of technology.

We at Miðeind have been eagerly awaiting this competition, as we were given the fun role of designing one of the tasks that the competitors will face. The teams have one week to solve the three tasks:

• A language technology task involving work with language models and text processing in Icelandic (Miðeind's contribution)

• An image recognition task where various patterns in images or videos need to be identified using computer vision

• A surprise task that will surprise the competitors and test their ability to think outside the box.

We encourage everyone who is interested, both beginners and advanced participants, to take part in the competition. This is a great opportunity to learn about and test new technology, and in addition, there are fantastic prizes on offer for those who perform the best.
